In this article, we’ll cover different types, examples, and signs of clairvoyance; famous clairvoyants throughout history; and tips/resources for developing your clairvoyance — both with people and animals.
1) What does being clairvoyant mean?
In French, clairvoyance means “clear-sight.” Everyone has this ability to a greater or lesser degree. It’s like playing the piano. Everyone can do it. Some people have more interest and a natural resonance with it than others.
Each of our five physical senses has a comparable spiritual aspect. Clairvoyance is simply seeing spiritually, or seeing through spirit’s eyes. You are a spirit in your physical body. It’s accessing that higher dimensional part of yourself.
2) Are there different types of clairvoyance?
Yes, there are two primary types of clairvoyance —
- seeing images or “movies” in your mind’s eye with your eyes closed
- seeing auras, spirits, angels, or other spiritual information with your eyes open
Some clairvoyants have one ability and others have both.
3) What is an example of clairvoyance?
As an intuitive, I offer people clairvoyant readings. Relationships are frequent topics during sessions. One client, Amber, asked about a good friend, Bella, who seemed distant recently. “Is she pulling away from me for some reason?” Amber wanted to know. I looked clairvoyantly at their relationship and saw that Bella continued to value Amber as a friend but was currently overwhelmed and stressed. I said, “She’s just busy. The two of you look as close as ever.” And today, they remain the best of friends.
4) 10 signs you’re clairvoyant:
- having strong intuition/gut feelings
- being empathic
- having affinity with animals
- being sensitive to energy in buildings, nature, and with people
- receiving visual information beyond the capacity of your eyes
- being attuned to what people are thinking
- having dreams of the future that end up happening
- experiencing deja vu frequently
- being aware of past lives with yourself or others
- seeing spirits from the other side
5) How do you develop clairvoyance?
Here are a few ways to enhance your spiritual vision, or seeing through your “mind’s eye,” the “third eye,” which is where you can see clairvoyant pictures.
- Meditate. Going within reduces your reliance on the five physical senses (visual, audio, touch, smell, and taste) as you explore your inner spiritual world.
- Practice activities that enhance your right brain, where spirituality/intuition live: creativity, music/singing, spontaneity, honoring emotional expression in yourself and others, and appreciating art and color.
- Close your eyes and “see” in your mind’s eye a room in your home in as much detail as possible.
- If you’re interested, take a class where you can practice clairvoyance regularly, like with Psychic Horizons Center in Boulder — psychichorizonscenter.org, where I honed my clairvoyant skills for many years.
6) Who are famous clairvoyants in history?
- Rumi — 13th C. Turkish Sufi poet and mystic
- Joan of Arc — 15th C. French feminist and spiritual visionary
- Nostradamus — 16th C. French seer
- Saint Germain — 18th C. European adventurer, alchemist, and spiritual master
- Madame Helena Blavatsky — 19th C. Russian and American mystic
- Rudolf Steiner — 19th & 20th C. Austrian spiritualist and philosopher
- Yogananda — 20th C. Indian and American monk, yogi, and spiritual teacher
- Edgar Cayce — 20th C. American channel and clairvoyant
7. Can you be clairvoyant with animals?
Absolutely. Animals communicate primarily through mental/clairvoyant images or “pictures.” For instance, if you’re sitting with your pet and you think continuously about giving them a treat (or something else they love) without moving a finger, they’re probably going to respond to you. Similarly, if you ask your pet a question, they’re likely to show you a mental/clairvoyant picture as their answer. This is often how animal communication happens.
